From the 1st of July 2016, the Biosecurity Act 2014 comes in to effect in Queesnland. We as horse owners and ride organisers must keep horse movement records. To make things easier, we have changed our HHD so that they are compliant with the new legislation.
Ride organisers and owners will need to keep a copy for 2 years. As the HHD is handed in to the ride organiser, you will need to keep a copy, you can either keep a duplicate, or simply take a photo of it with your phone.
Current vaccination means:-
- 3 Weeks after its second priming shot and its vaccination certificate hasn't expired. -OR-
- It has had its first booster at 6 month after the 2nd priming shot and its vaccination certificate hasn't expired -OR-
- It has had a 12 month booster and its vaccination certificate hasn't expired.
Please note: The Gate Steward / Camp Boss will need to see a copy of your horse's vaccination certificate prior to being admitted to the ride base. It is good practice to always carry a copy of your horse's vaccination certificate when travelling. You never know when your horse may need veterinary attention, and having its current certificate with you will save any delays if your horse needs urgent attention.

Handy Clipboard Temperature Chart
Here is another form that may come in handy. If you laminate it and put it in a clipboard, you can use a permanent marker to record the temperatures. Once you have transcribed the readings to the HHD that is safely inside out of the rain, mud and dirt, you can wipe it down with metho. It can be used for either vaccinated or unvaccinated horses. Whether you are doing a 3 day log or 10 day log you start recording temperatures on the same day of the week - just a week earlier for unvaccinated horses.
